Privacy and storage
Where your hunts, characters and parties are stored, what leaves your browser, and how to keep your data safe.
Guest or account: you choose
You never need an account. When you open the Dashboard you can continue as a guest or sign in with Discord, Google or a link sent to your email. Everything works the same either way. The difference is where your characters, hunts, builds, parties, teams and debts are kept.
As a guest
Everything is stored in your browser (local storage) on this device. That means:
- Nobody else can see it, including us.
- It doesn't follow you to another browser or device.
- Clearing your browser data for the site deletes it.
- Browsers give each site about 5 MB. The You menu shows how much you're using, and warns you when you're close to the limit.
Warning: Private or incognito windows forget everything when you close them. Use a normal window for the Dashboard.
Backups
You → Export backup downloads a .json file with all your data: characters, hunts, builds, parties, teams, debts and goals. You → Import backup brings it back on any browser. Items in the file replace the ones with the same name, and everything else stays. It's the easiest way for guests to move to a new computer or keep a safe copy.
Unsaved hunts
The hunt you're working on is kept as a draft in this browser while you type. If you reload the page or switch to another character, it comes back when you return to that character. Drafts stay on this device and don't sync to your account. Save the hunt to keep it for good.
With an account
Your data is still saved in the browser, and a copy is kept in your account, so it's there on every device where you sign in. Changes sync on their own a couple of seconds after you save. The You menu shows the sync status.
- Your first sign-in on a browser where you already used JososLab as a guest asks what to do with that data: Add to my account brings it in (if the account already has data, both are merged), and Start fresh signs you in without it and removes it from that browser. The dialog lets you download a backup first, so nothing is lost by accident.
- Signing out removes the account's data from that browser. It stays safe in your account for the next time you sign in.
- Only you can read your account's data.
- Deleting your account (You → Delete account) permanently removes the account and everything synced to it. To avoid accidents, you type DELETE to confirm.
What leaves your browser
Only these things are ever sent anywhere, and only when you use them:
| Feature | What is sent | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Live party hunts | The party token, member names, and the Hunt Analysers each member shares | So everyone in the party sees the same split in real time. |
| Oracle | Your question, the recent conversation, and (if enabled) a short profile: vocation, level, skill, gear and build | So the AI can answer. Your character name is never sent. |
| Account (optional) | Your account ID, name, picture, email (Google and email sign-in) and the data you save in the Dashboard | So your data is safe and syncs across your devices. |
| Payment requests | Your character name, the other player's character name, the amount and the number of hunts | So the request shows up on their Dashboard Home. It's stored inside the party you hunted together, so only people with that party's token can read it. |
| Share links | Only the parts of the hunt you chose to include | So anyone with the link can open it. Links aren't listed or indexed. Signed-in players can delete them. |
| Waitlist | Your email, if you sign up | To tell you when new things launch. |
You can turn off the Oracle profile at any time from the chip above the Oracle input. The full details are in the Privacy Policy.
